18-foot-long oarfish found off California coast

The 300 pound oarfish, surrounded by the CIMI staff who pulled it out of the water.
A snorkeling science instructor this weekend off the Southern California coast discovered something out of a fantasy novel: the silvery carcass 18-foot serpent-like oarfish is one of the creatures thought to be the "sea serpents" of nautical legend.

This type of creatures are rarely encountered though they surface and wash ashore when they die or are near-death.

Jasmine Santana of the Catalina Island Marine Institute needed more than 15 helpers to drag the 300 pounds giant sea serpent creature to the shore.

"This is  a life time discoverry." Mark Waddington, senior captain of the Tole Mour, CIMI's sail training ship said adding;
"We've never seen a fish this big, The last oarfish we saw was three feet long."

About two dozen miles from the mainland, Santana saw something shimmering about 30 feet deep while snorkeling during a staff trip in Toyon Bay at Santa Catalina Island. She thought of  of how to drag it out of the water. "Ofcouse nobody would believe me." She said.

After she dragged by the tail for more than 75 feet, staffers waded in and helped her bring it to shore.

“The craziest thing we saw during our two-day journey at sea happened when we got home; these islands never cease to amaze.” Connor Gallagher told the press.

CIMI's marketing director 'Kent Woods', said that the office is flooded with inquiries about the fish, where it came from and how it got there.

Oarfish spend most of their time hundreds of feet below the surface, so very little is known about then. In 2011, an undersea rover from Louisiana, the State University also captured the elusive creature in its home territory, around 360 feet down.

According to one reference book, In the year 1901- a 22-foot oarfish drifted onto the sand in Newport Beach, California and this was a basis for many sea-serpent stories told by local bar patrons for more than a decade after its discovery.

The fish apparently died of natural causes. Video footage and Tissue samples were sent to be studied by biologists at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Kenya Mall Attack: 39 Dead And Hostages Still Held

Reports comfirmed by the Kenyan president (Uhuru  Kenyatta) say that so far 39 people have died and  more than 150 injured in an upscale mall attack by  armed terrorists.

Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta who added his close relatives are  among the killed said that the security forces are  going to do any thing possible regards responding to  the attack. He also called it a delicate operation by  saying that their top priority was to safeguard the  lives of those still being held hostage. Two gunmen,   Who were detained are also reported deed after being  shot.

Abbas Gullet, one of the Kenya Red Cross officials  said that there are fears the death toll could rise  further.

Al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group Al-Shabab has  claimed responsibility for the attack. They said that  the attack was a punishment for Kenyan forces' 2011  push into Somalia. They threatened more attacks.

Elijah Kamau, who was at the mall at the time of the midday attack said that gunmen asked the victims if they were  Muslims: several witnesses said that if your answer was yes, you were free to go. The non Muslims remained hostages.

According to the reports, at least five gunmen  including a woman  first attacked a cafe at the  shiny, new shopping center that hosts Nike, Adidas  and Bose stores "Westgate Mall". The mall's ownership  is Israeli, and security experts have long said the  structure made an attractive terrorist target.

The Mujahideen (Al-Shabab) said late Saturday via  Twitter that "All praise is due to Allah!" however,  they are still holding their grounds inside Westgate  Mall.

The national government's cabinet secretary  for interior and coordination (Joseph Ole Lenku),  said that security their forces have taken control of  the situation and the worst should be over.

The  national police earlier tweeted that the attackers "have been isolated and pinned down in a room by security forces. They added on that via Twitter that the attackers of Westgate shopping mall have been isolated and pinned down in a room by security forces in the ongoing operation.

However, Kenya's president (Uhuru Kenyatta) blasted  "the despicable perpetrators of this cowardly act  (who) hoped to intimidate, divide and cause  despondency among Kenyans and would like to (create)  a closed, fearful and fractured society."

In 1998, over 213 were reported dead in the U.S.  Embassy bombing attack in Nairobi, and other attacks  before since tied to al-Qaeda and related groups.  This indicates that Kenya is no stranger to terrorism

Kenyatta promised Kenyans on a televised speech  late Saturday, that his nation has "overcome" such  attacks before, refusing to budge from its values or  relinquish his security. And it will do so again.

"We shall hunt down the perpetrators wherever they  run to," the president said, adding;
"We shall get them, and we shall punish them for this heinous crime.

Caught On Tape: School Bus Driver Suspended For Texting While Driving

A Florida school bus driver has been suspended after  she was recorded on cellphone video, texting while  driving a bus with one hand, packed with students.

The footage was covered last Friday by Venus Cotto  Silva's 14-year-old daughter, who recorded the  Hillsborough County school bus driver allegedly  looking down at her smartphone while driving the school  bus.

Cotto-Silva said said that when the daughter showed  her the video, she just couldn't believe it. "The  scary part is, see how quickly she grabbed the  wheel?" Cotto-Silva said, pointing to the video.  However, a Florida law to ban texting while driving  still goes into effect October 1, though bus drivers  will be exempt.

The school district Called this a policy violation, by  putting it clearly in a statement that; the driver was  looking at her cellphone, which is a very bad  distraction for any driver. The potential danger was   even more greater because the bus was full of  children.

The 14-year-old girl said that she was shooting this  video with an intention of gathering some evidence on how  the driver curses. However, the video appears to show  the driver drifting into a wrong lane while texting. It  appeared like the driver finally looked up from her  phone and suddenly grabbed the wheel with both hands  just in time trying to avoid traffic.

The suspended driver has not been identified.

Despite the driver's suspension, Cotto-Silva said  that not only was she going to kill her self, she was  also going to kill the children on the bus.

Authorities Find 850 Illegal Snakes In animal Control Officer’s Home

The Long Island animal control officer was (Richard  Parrinello) is accused of illegally housing 850 snakes  according to the New York state and county  authorities.

According to the reports, Richard Parrinello, 44, kept  850 snakes in his home garage, including three small  frozen alligator carcasses which were to be fed to the  reptiles, two Burmese pythons (6-foot-long). All these  were forbidden by the law in the state.

The Deputy town attorney David J. Moran and other  Officials raided Richard Parrinello's home after a  monthlong workers' compensation probe. officials said  that they raided his home stemming from allegations  that he had a second job while on disability leave.

For seven years, Parrinello has been a full-time town  employee, but he now faces multiple  counts of violating town laws by running a reptile  sales business at his home without a permit. He  cooperated with the authorities and was not arrested,  the officials said, Parrinello faces possible  termination from his town job.

He has also been managing a website called Snake Man  Exotics, Which since has been suspended.

The Suffolk County SPCA Chief (Roy Gross) announced  that the two pythons will be transferred to an out of- state-sanctuary. However, the rest of the reptile's  fate remains undecided.

Gross told the press that he has never seen so many  snakes in one place before, not even in a zoo. He  added that they were called in to see whether there  was an animal cruelty or neglect [but] the animals  appeared to be healthy and well-cared for.

Gross noted that the two Burmese pythons (6-foot-long)  were being handled separately from the other reptiles,  because they are dangerous. "Two escaped pythons in  Canada recently strangled to death a pair of young  children." He concluded.

Parrinello who owns two vans with personalized number  plates reading “SNAKEVAN” and “SSSSNAKE,” is   cooperating with  the authorities from the state's Department of  Environmental Conservation and the United States Fish  and Wildlife Service.

Long Island has made recent efforts of convincing  people to hand over reptiles owned illegally.
Neighbors were shocked and they never even thought of  him doing stuff like that because he seemed like a  nice, quiet guy.

5.3-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan's Fukushima.

A 5.3 moderate earthquake has hit Japan near the country's no longer  existing Fukushima nuclear power plant which was crippled in the March  2011 tsunami and earthquake.

The United States Geological Service (USGS) measured this quake which   took place at 17:25 GMT at a 5.3 magnitude. The Japan Meteorological Agency, however,  opposed the measurements of the The United States Geological Service by  saying that the actual magnitude of the earthquake was 5.8.

According to the United States Geological Service (USGS) survey, the  earthquake's epicentre was 22 kilometers blow the ground, "thats about 14  miles." The quake hit 20 kilometers west of Iwaki city, bordering the  Pacific Ocean, at 17:25 GMT.

The Japan Meteorological Agency which put its magnitude at 5.8 said that  the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue an alert. The  involuntary quivering movement of the quake caused the shaking of building  in Tokyo which is around 175 kilometers way.

The company in charge of the site's cleanup operations (TEPCO) has  reported that it is monitoring the plant, and it added that so-far no  occurrences have been discovered.

The quake hit the Fukushima nuclear power plant just hours after the Japanese  Prime Minister "Shinzo Abe" visited on Thursday, ordering the TEPCO to scrap  all the reactors and fix radioactive water leaks.

The disaster that occurred in 2011 caused the plant's three reactors to  melt which damaged a fuel cooling pool at another. The TEPCO officials  have confirmed that radiation contaminated the groundwater. The  contaminated water has been seeping beneath the Pacific Ocean since the  meltdowns and the reports say that the attempts to collect and store  polluted water have not been successful.

The Fukushima nuclear power plant lies in the 4 major tectonic plates  commonly known as the "Ring of Fire" the North America plate; Eurasia  plate; and Philippine Sea plate and Pacific plate, this means that it is  highly exposed to being attacked by tsunamis and earthquakes. According to  the reports, its about 90% of the world's earthquakes occur in this  region.

'Infomercial King' Kevin Trudeau Sent To Jail

The controversial American author (Kevin Trudeau) violated court orders of paying a fine of $37 million. This fine was for the alleged false marketing claims. The federal judge in Chicago told him that he can't talk his way out of this. Kevin  Trudeau has claimed that he has no money to pay the fine, which started from alleged false claims about his weight-loss book.

The FBI reported that for years Mr. Kevin Trudeau has been living in a in the lap of luxury even if he claimed he was broke and refused to pay the court's fine. The Federal Trade Commission presented bank statements showing Kevin Trudeau’s latest extravagances and added allegations that Trudeau hid a bank account in Australia containing $20,000. This was in the days after a July court hearing at which he was taken to jail.

On Wednesday, the Federal Trade Commission Lawyers presented evidence that Trudeau spent $900 at a liquor store, $359 on two haircuts, and $920 on cigars.

Earlier this summer, Judge Robert Gettleman wrote that he has seen evidence that Trudeau is living a much more Luxurious life than the broke man he professes to be. He witnessed this by saying that Trudeau uses top-dollar attorneys and that he drives a $340,000 Bentley in addition to employing two personal chefs plus his suburban Chicago home based butler.

Kevin Trudeau’s lawyer (Thomas Kirsch) asked  the Judge (Robert Gettleman) to reconsider, telling them that Trudeau doesn't have the $37 million he was extracted to pay as a penalty five years ago. The judge told Kirsh that he is asking for Trudeau's honesty, and has not got it yet.

These long-time standing legal difficulties on the infomercial king started from his book called "The Weight-Loss Cure", which he falsely advertised as giving simple solutions on how to lose weight.

It is said that If Kevin Trudeau ever pays the fine, the money shall be shared among readers who purchased the book.
